Why doesn't the pear have an equal place with the apple? The sheer range of types, the elegance, and the productivity of the pear is unmatched. They can be huge or tiny, round or pear shaped. Many are quick to bear, some take years. Pears can easily live over 100 years. They do require a partner for pollination like apples, but for the most part they all bloom at the same time so any two will do, and wild pears in the neighborhood work too. They graft easily.
